The Noble Bric of Olivola

An ancient mansion our villa, built at the end of the '500 that welcomed literary men and noble adventurers. Find out why.

Every Monferrato hill has a castle as a crown.

The hill on which Olivola stands has as its crown the Villa del Bel Riposo. An ancient mansion our villa, built at the end of the '500 that welcomed literary men and noble adventurers.
They call it Villa Guazzo-Candiani, in memory of the two families who lived there, families who left their mark in Monferrato Casalese.
Stefano Guazzo built it and dedicated it to his wife Francesca, he was a man of his time: a Renaissance soul.

He wrote books such as the Civil Conversazione, he travelled in the footsteps of the Gonzaga, he founded the Accademia degli Illustrati, Guazzo is a character that Casale Monferrato continues to remember as well as Admiral Camillo Candiani, the second illustrious guest of the villa who preferred the Seven Seas to the hills.

Admiral of the fleet of the Kingdom of Italy, Senator in Rome, circumnavigated the globe and fought in China alongside the British. He decided to retire from public life in old age «dedicating his activity in the rural occupations to personally care for his possessions in the Monferrato» we can still read these words in the eulogy that was made in the Senate at his death.

A noble story about Olivola’s bric, a story that begins in the Renaissance and that we have inherited.

That’s why our motto. Alta Petit is more alive and true than ever.

Villa del Bel Riposo

We are in the medieval village of Olivola. Built in 1585, the villa encapsulates the entire history of Bricco dei Guazzi. Villa del Bel Riposo (Beautiful Rest Villa), whose name already expresses the comfort and hospitality of its rooms, was the home of the Guazzo and Candiani nobles. Stefano Guazzo had it built in honor of his wife, Francesca. It is proud and elegant, just like we are.
